Backpack for BENCHMARK
This 42.7-mile backpacking experience is planned on the Appalachian Trail near the Tennessee / North Carolina state line.
We’ll leave Nashville Thursday early afternoon and return Sunday around midnight.
Difficulty: A demanding hike with incredible rewards if you are looking to see what you are capable of doing.
Big hills and long views on clear days. Great company. Memories that will last long into next year.
Cost & Details: Would you like to hike this fall and raise money for BENCHMARK? Hikers are asked to set a personal minimum
fund-raising goal of $800 to benefit the ministry of BENCHMARK.
For hikers not choosing to fund raise, the cost is $350, which includes food from state to finish, equipment and instruction.
Some shared transportation costs from Nashville extra.
If you are unable hike with us, would you consider making a donation to sponsor a hiker? Pledges can be made on a per mile basis
or as a single gift. Your generous involvement will continue this 17-year ministry.
This 17th annual backpacking experience is in memory of Chuck Wilson. Chuck Wilson from Mt. Vernon, IL had a growing interest
in BENCHMARK’s ministry. October 1998 found Chuck on the Hiking Team for our annual ‘Backpack’ raising funds in southern Illinois.
During early 1999, Chuck started skydiving. He was excited about the new challenge and his own growth personally and spiritually.
On April 24th, 1999 during his 18th jump, Chuck’s parachutes didn’t function properly.
BENCHMARK staff attended his funeral in Illinois.
We honor Chuck as a friend, a fellow struggler in the Christian faith who was very honest about who he was and who he was
trying to be. I admired his sincere desire to grow, to be a man of God, to face life head on and deal with it in a God honoring way.
Chuck didn’t quit on the Backpack for BENCHMARK in 1998. And I have come to understand that was the case in every area of his life.
