Twelve students and adults from Trinity Free Will Baptist
Church, Greenville, NC went mobile with BENCHMARK to
live life together in May 2006. Youth Pastor David Mizelle
had been leading his students toward greater group unity
by developing student leadership and by challenging them
to be more serious about their relationships with God and
each other. Building off their on-going youth Bible study,
BENCHMARK designed a weekend wilderness experience
to give these students an opportunity to try on leadership
and put into practice the principles being studied. The Appalachian
Trail above Roan Mountain State Park provided
a beautiful and rugged classroom for our lesson together.
Seventeen year old Kelsey responded to an evaluation recently. She had these words to say about the trip:

“I was proud of myself for what I had accomplished and that I had persevered during
the many challenges I faced. From this course I learned that I can never give up.
I also realized that I needed to work on putting my desires last and not to be so selfish.
I learned that I could get through a difficult challenge.”
